KUCHING: Legendary international band Boney M is set to commence its highly anticipated 50th Anniversary Tour at the Great Hall, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Jan 4.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed his excitement, noting that Boney M had chosen Kuching as the launching pad for its milestone tour.
“Right after the New Year countdown, those in their 40s and 50s will surely recognise hits like ‘Daddy Cool’, ‘River of Babylon’, ‘Rasputin’ and ‘Ma Baker’. Hence, we’re taking you on a nostalgic journey down memory lane.
“The band was formed more or less 50 years ago and has become globally renowned for the blending of pop, disco and reggae songs.
“If I’m not mistaken, it has more than 10 number one hits. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this iconic band live on stage,” he said at a press conference at Baitul Makmur II Complex here today.
Front Row Live Series 2025 organising chairman Zaid Zaini shared that ticket sales had been good since they began on Oct 16.
“Our target is to put around 4,000 to be comfortable. We are happy to say we have sold out a certain category, Cat D. We have crossed the 70 percent mark of tickets sold for now.
“And also, don’t forget, we have a special opening with ‘At Adau’ performing for about 30 minutes.
“This will be a big draw for Kuching, specifically, and a great reason for (everyone) to come as well,” he said.
He said the concert was part of the inaugural Front Row Live Series 2025 by Front Row Entertainment, which aimed to support Kuching’s tourism sector.
Zaid added that the series would feature three major events throughout 2025, starting with Boney M’s concert, followed by a stand-up comedy festival and a live music concert in Miri.
