KUCHING: National powerlifting star, Bonnie Bunyau Gustin, is now fully focused on his intensive training sessions as he prepares for the 2025 World Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt, scheduled to take place from October 10 to 18.
The event presents a golden opportunity for the Sarawak-born athlete to chase the world title in his favourite category, the 72 kg class.
“At the moment, I’m focused on my daily training, which I carry out twice a day, morning and evening.
“Besides maintaining my fitness and performance levels, the training is part of my preparation for the World Championships in Egypt,” Bonnie said during a training session at Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya.
Bonnie acknowledged that he expects stiff competition at the upcoming championships, with many world-class lifters from various countries set to compete.
Nonetheless, he remains determined to stay focused, especially when the real contest begins.
Bonnie added that his participation in the championship is also part of his quest to secure a spot in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
