KUCHING: A book featuring 26 female personalities will be launched on Aug 3 in Kuching in conjunction with the celebration of Women’s Day 2024 (HW24) aimed at inspiring Sarawakian women and the younger generation to uphold their spirit and confidence.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this year’s Sarawak Women’s Day (HW24) celebration will be held at RH Hotel, Sibu, on Aug 10.
“The event with the theme ‘Sarawak Women in Innovation and Technology’ is expected to commence at 8.30am and will be broadcast live via the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Facebook platform.
“The chosen theme this year aims to appreciate the contributions and achievements of women involved in innovation and technology towards building a harmonious and prosperous family, state and country.
“In addition, it aims to recognise the achievements and successes of Sarawakian women who have brought honour to Sarawak and Malaysia in general,” she said during a press conference at Wisma Wanita on Tuesday (June 25).
She added that the event will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and will also be attended by Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
“A total of 750 physical attendees will include the Deputy Premier and spouse, Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, State Assembly Members, Sarawak State Secretaries, Deputy State Secretaries, Resident Officers, Mayors, Department Heads, Sarawak Family Women’s Council Members, Strategic Partners of the Ministry of Women Development, Children and Community Welfare, and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Members.
“An additional 1,000 people will watch via Zoom representing women from 45 district offices across the state, Sarawak civil servants, and members of Sarawak women’s organisations.”
Among the events include the presentation of the Women’s Day 2024 Women’s Figure Award, namely the Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib Award, Sarawak Premier Women’s Leadership Award, Sarawak Premier Women’s Entrepreneurship Award, Sarawak Premier Women’s Social Activist Award, Sarawak Premier Special Achievement Award, and Sarawak Premier Outstanding NGO Award.
“The ministry through the Sarawak Women and Family Department will once again publish a book this year as an effort to appreciate Sarawakian women who have made valuable contributions in the fields of innovation and technology.”
