Book on Dayak women in contemporary Sarawak launched

SPAOH: The Dayak Women in Contemporary Sarawak book was officially launched on Sept 4 by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

The launching was made during the Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Betong Fundraising Lunch held in Spaoh Community Hall.

“The book was edited by the inaugural chairholder of Tan Sri Empiang Jabu Research Chair, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Jawan and published by UPM Press.

“The book comprises papers presented during the National Conference on Dayak Women that was held on March 18 and 19 in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK),” said a press release issued yesterday.

The fundraising lunch was organised to generate an education fund for SIDS Betong. All proceeds from the book sold at the launching were donated to SIDS Betong.

Also present at the book launch were Tan Sri Datuk Seri Empiang Jabu, chairman of SIDS Betong Carolynne Dayang Jawa, Datin Rosemarie Wong-Jabu, permanent secretary for the Ministry of Transport Sarawak and SIDS chairman Datuk Ir. Alice Jawan Empaling, Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Jawan, Science advisor to the Sarawak government Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Alfred Jabu Numpang, Betong Resident Richard Michael Abunawas and Datuk Kennedy Jawan.
