KUCHING: The Borderland Music Festival 2025 will take place on Sept 5-6 at the Sarawak Cultural Village, bringing together a spectacular blend of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and Sarawak’s rich indigenous heritage.
The festival, which is Sarawak’s very own homegrown EDM event, has grown significantly in popularity since its inception in 2023 in Miri.
“The festival embodies the spirit of unity, creativity, and resilience, making it a one-of-a-kind celebration where the cutting-edge sounds of EDM meet the heart of Sarawak’s indigenous heritage all within the breathtaking rainforest backdrop of the Cultural Village,” said Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting here today.
“The 2025 festival is expected to draw around 20,000 people over the two days, with nearly half of them coming from outside Sarawak.”
It will feature a mix of world-class EDM acts such as Da Tweekaz, Darren Styles, Beauz, Wukong, and Whisnu Santika, and artists from over 15 countries, ensuring a truly global experience.
“Not only does the Borderland Music Festival offer exciting performances, but it is also a significant contributor to tourism, hospitality, and economic growth, benefiting both Kuching and Sarawak as a whole,”he said.
The organisers pride themselves for actively engaging with festival-goers, ensuring that the artists invited are those most requested by the fans themselves.
“This connection between fans, performers, and local culture is what gives the festival its unique character,” said Ting.
Looking to the future, he hoped that Borderland will follow the footsteps of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), which started in 1998 with just 300 visitors and now attracts over 20,000 visitors annually.
Organiser Ing Xiang Ming said the Borderland Music Festival is poised to become a key annual event for Sarawak’s tourism.
“Borderland represents the new generation and sound. We are determined to make Sarawak the next EDM hotspot in Asia with a celebration of music, culture, and unity that will leave a lasting impression,” Ing said.
“This year’s festival will be even bigger than the previous two. Fans can expect to experience top-tier performances and an extraordinary stage design featuring a stunning blend of lights, visuals, lasers, and pyrotechnics.”
He added that in addition to world-class EDM performances, there will be a range of heritage activities at the Sarawak Cultural Village, including basic DJ and dance workshops and traditional cuisine tasting.
