The Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) is now seen as a benchmark for other museums in Malaysia, said Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The museum, which was opened to the public on March 9, has received overwhelming response and the feedback from visitors has been very positive and encouraging.
“Between March 9 and Nov 26, a total of 490,577 people visited the BCM and the highest number of visitors to the BCM in one day was 7,671 on June 4.
“Visitors include foreign ambassadors, consulates, state and federal government agencies, various educational institutions, private companies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
“On March 29 and July 5 this year, the BCM was visited by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
“Sarawakians are especially proud to have a world-class museum that showcases their cultures and history,” he said when delivering his winding-up speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday (Nov 30).
Abdul Karim said the various galleries offer the best experience for visitors to appreciate Sarawak’s unique cultural beauty.
“The galleries are the Arts and Crafts gallery, Children’s gallery, ‘In Harmony with Nature’ gallery, ‘Time Changes’ gallery and ‘Objects of Desire’ gallery,” he said.
He said BCM also received the Malaysia Tourism Council Gold Award for the Museum of the Year 2022.
