SIBU: Public Health, Housing and Local Government’s Deputy Minister, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, lauded StudyMalaysia for organising the ‘Borneo Education Expo 2025: Local Meets Global’.
He said the three-day (May 23-25) expo reflects a shared vision: bringing together local strengths and global opportunities under one roof.
“Education is the cornerstone of a nation’s future.
“It is not merely the transfer of knowledge but the shaping of vision, innovation and resilience.
“This expo exemplifies our commitment to building an education system that is inclusive, diverse, and aligned with global standards,” he said during the opening ceremony at a renowned hotel here today.
Organised by StudyMalaysia in collaboration with Business Events Sarawak and the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the expo features over 35 local and international universities, colleges and educational institutions.

The Pelawan assemblyman said the event offers a one-stop platform for students, parents and educators, to explore academic programmes, scholarships, loans and career planning.
“Beyond just providing information, this expo offers valuable opportunities for direct engagement with institutional representatives.
“Students can ask questions, compare options, and make informed decisions based on their interests and aspirations,” he added.
Tiang also said that parents can gain deeper insight into funding options, course quality, and future career prospects, while educators can expand their networks, discover collaborative programmes, and stay current with trends in higher education.
“Such platforms empower young Sarawakians not only to access opportunities but also to understand their potential and make confident, purposeful decisions,” he said.
He stressed that initiatives like this play a crucial role in bridging the gap between aspirations and opportunities – between local roots and global ambitions.
Meanwhile, StudyMalaysia Sdn Bhd’s Executive Director, Tan Mui Hong, said the expo includes career talks, guidance booths, and face-to-face counselling sessions to provide practical support.
“To all our participating institutions and exhibitors, thank you for your dedication and for making the journey to Sibu.
“Your presence truly matters to the students and families you’ll meet today.
“To the parents and teachers, thank you for walking alongside your children and students as they navigate their futures.
“And to the students: this is your moment. Explore, ask questions, take your time, and most importantly, dream big.
“Your journey begins with the choices you make here today,” he said.
Also present was Assistant Education Officer of Sibu District, Jeremy Ling Beng Leh.
