KUCHING: More than 800 participants from across Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore are expected to converge for the inaugural Borneo International Integrity Summit (BIIS) 2025, set to take place from July 29 to 30, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The regional summit, themed ‘Driving Innovation, Transparency and Ethical Leadership for a Sustainable Future’, will bring together a diverse mix of academicians, civil servants, university students and sixth-formers representing 31 institutions of higher learning and 27 secondary schools.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, said the strong response reflects growing regional awareness of the need to prioritise ethical leadership and transparent governance, especially among the younger generation.

“This summit is not only a platform for dialogue; it’s a movement involving future leaders of Borneo who will carry forward the values of integrity and accountability,” he told reporters during a press conference here today.

He added that the event will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, on July 29 at 3:00 pm.

It is jointly organised by the Unit Integriti dan Ombudsman Sarawak (UNIONS) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Sarawak, in collaboration with the Konsortium Universiti-Universitas Borneo (KUUB).

“The summit aims to promote ethical leadership and sustainable governance in Borneo, while also strengthening cross-border collaboration among 16 member universities under the KUUB network, including institutions from Brunei, Kalimantan, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

“A highlight of the programme is the Innovation Exhibition, where local universities and skills centres, including UNIMAS, UiTM Samarahan, UTS, Curtin University Malaysia, CENTEXS, Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College, will showcase research and products with socioeconomic impact,” he added.

Juanda stated that during the summit, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KUUB and UNIONS will be held to enhance collaboration in promoting integrity enforcement and education.

“Sarawak has also been designated as the permanent host for BIIS, to be held once every two years, highlighting its leadership in the regional governance and integrity ecosystem,” he said.

Also present at the press conference were Deputy State Secretary (Operations), Datuk Hii Chang Kee, UPM Sarawak Director, Prof. Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini, and UNIONS Director, Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman.
