KUCHING: The Professor Adam Kayoom Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Super Seminar 2025 has brought together the largest assembly of BJJ black belts ever hosted in Borneo.
The seminar, led by Professor Adam Kayoom , a distinguished black belt under Mestre Ricardo Liborio marked one of the most significant milestones in Sarawak’s BJJ history.
He was joined by seven other black belts on the mats.
They include Ivan Evetovics, AJ Pyro, Eazy Annuar, Nobel Lee, Norman Chai, Jeremiah Moa, and Jason Hamilton.
A highlight of the weekend was the first-degree black belt promotion of Ivan Evetovics, celebrated for his humility, quiet leadership, and dedication to the sport.
In a press statement, organisers highlighted the significance of promoting three new black belts during the event, including Studio 23’s own Norman Chai and Jeremiah Moa. Both have trained in Kuching for over a decade — Jeremiah since 2009, and Norman since 2012 — and have played key roles in cultivating Sarawak’s BJJ scene.
“Jeremiah began his journey in 2009, and Norman followed in 2012. Over the course of more than a decade, they trained, coached, competed, and persevered — embodying the true spirit of BJJ while helping to build the foundation of the art in Sarawak.
Joining them was Jason Hamilton, a longtime student of AJ Pyro in Sabah. Although originally from the United States, Hamilton now considers himself a “Borneo black belt,” reflecting the sense of community that transcends nationality within the sport.
In addition to black belt promotions, many students were awarded new belts and stripes.
