Boy drowns during beach outing, cops urge caution amid rough weather

MIRI: An evening outing turned tragic when a 10-year-old boy drowned while swimming with two friends at Lutong Beach yesterday (Jul 29).

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said Lutong police station received a report on the incident at 4.36 pm.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the alert, but paramedics pronounced the boy, a Year 4 pupil from SK Lutong, dead at the scene.

The case has been classified as sudden death.

He also reminded the public not to spread unverified or sensitive content on social media that could cause unnecessary concern within the community.

“With the current unpredictable weather, strong waves and wind can be dangerous.

“Parents and guardians are advised to closely monitor their children during beach activities,” he said.

Anyone with information on the incident are encouraged to report them to investigating officer and Lutong police chief Sgt Husaini Amin at 019-8889530, 085-655202, or report to the nearest police station.
