SEMATAN: A retreat camp outing ended in tragedy when a young boy drowned in a swimming pool at a camp here on Wednesday (June 3).
The victim, believed to be about 10 years old, was found unconscious in the pool before emergency responders were alerted.
The Sematan Civil Defence Force (APM) said they received a distress call from members of the public regarding the incident at 5.38 pm.
Upon arrival, the personnel immediately checked the boy’s condition and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while awaiting the arrival of paramedics and police.
Despite desperate efforts to save him, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
His body was later handed over to the police for further investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the drowning have yet to be disclosed, and investigations are ongoing.
