BINTULU: Sarawak is eyeing technology adaptation from Brazil to boost the state’s food industry.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg noted that Brazil was among the world’s leading food producers.
He said he had recently instructed Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, to visit Brazil and learn about their technology in relevant industries.
“He was supposed to go to Denmark. But I told him to also go to Brazil and bring back the technology. We want to collaborate with Brazil in terms of technology. Brazil is a leading country in food production in South America.
“If Brazil has succeeded, and Denmark has Nestlé, then Sarawak should also have its place on the world stage in the food industry,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Agrofest 2025 at Bintulu Old Airport here today.
Earlier in his welcoming speech, Dr Rundi said that Brazil’s agriculture minister had welcomed Sarawak officials to learn about the country’s livestock technology.
“They have 240 million cattle and 4,000 veterinarians. We can adopt practices such as artificial insemination. They have agreed to cooperate, but we must study and understand their technology,” he said.
