KUCHING: Police have ruled out a house break-in linked to the deaths of a married couple found inside their home in Sri Aman yesterday (Wednesday, Jan. 14), as investigators continue to piece together what led to the tragedy.

Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, said no valuables were reported missing from the residence at Taman Mutiara, Jalan Brayun, dismissing early suspicions of a break-in.

“Initial investigations have been carried out, with the forensic team deployed to the location to collect evidence that could facilitate investigations.

“However, so far we have yet to find any clues regarding the cause of death of the couple,” he said.

Meanwhile, the bodies were sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) today for post-mortem examinations to determine the cause of death and the nature of injuries sustained by both victims.

“As of today, we have yet to make any arrest in connection with this case,” he said.

Zainal stated that the incident was discovered by the victims’ children after they woke up early in the morning.

Police are still probing the motive and exact cause of the incident, with officers actively gathering evidence and recording statements from witnesses to assist the probe.

Earlier reports said the couple, both civil servants, were found dead in their home. The 45-year-old man was a headmaster at a primary school, while his 44-year-old wife was a nurse.

The couple left behind three children, aged nine, 16 and 17.

Sri Aman District Police Headquarters (IPD) was alerted to the incident at around 6.55 am, prompting police officers and paramedics from Sri Aman Hospital to be dispatched to the scene.

Initial examinations confirmed that both victims had died at the scene due to severe injuries.

Zainal said the case is being classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Members of the public with any information related to the case are urged to report them to investigating officer, ASP Kalang, at 019-3317785, Sri Aman IPD control centre, or the nearest police station.
