KUALA LUMPUR: The spirit of Ramadan was celebrated in full warmth and unity at the Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2025 event, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) tonight (Mar 22).
More than 1,400 guests comprising Sarawakians working in Malaya, strategic partners of the Sarawak government, and students from across the country gathered for the special iftar ceremony.
Organised by the Sarawak Foundation in collaboration with the Sarawak Liaison Office Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak volunteers, the event aimed to strengthen bonds between the Sarawakian diaspora and reinforce the traditional family-like atmosphere of breaking fast during the holy month.
The event was graced by the presence of Sarawak Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
In a symbolic gesture of care and generosity, 50 students received festive donations and duit raya from Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Abang Johari and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
Altogether, 481 Sarawakian students received donations, including those from Genius @ Pintar College at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), various higher education institutions nationwide, and participants under the Sarawak Foundation’s Student Exchange Programme.
Children of staff members from the Sarawak Foundation Kuala Lumpur and the Sarawak Liaison Office were also among the recipients.
Guests were treated to a variety of traditional delicacies including satay and Sarawak mee, adding a delightful culinary touch to the evening of togetherness.
The annual event continues to play a vital role in nurturing unity and preserving Sarawakian cultural heritage among communities away from home during Ramadhan.
