KUCHING: Hit Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ inspired a modern take of the show’s soundtracks at the Chemsain Auditorium here last Saturday night (May 24).
Organised by The Band Lab Kuching, the event featured contemporary pop songs by artists such as Taylor Swift, BTS, Coldplay and Ariana Grande, bridging modern music with orchestral music as seen in the series.
The Band Lab’s president and event organiser, Jesmond Siew, said the idea was sparked by audience feedback during their wedding gigs and functions.
“People would come up and ask questions like, ‘Was that from Bridgerton?’, and that’s when we realised there was genuine interest in this style of music.
“We saw a potential audience here, so we decided to try out the concept,” said Siew.
He explained that song selection for the evening was carefully curated to support the storyline and emotional pacing of the event.
“We put effort into storytelling through music. The idea was to take the audience on a journey.
“The goal is to bring the audience into a fantasy world and then back to reality,” he said.
One of the attendees, Hanan Abdullah, was moved by the performance.
“When they were playing ‘Wildest Dreams’ by Taylor Swift, I almost cried because of how wonderful everything was put together,” she said.
She noted that even the smallest detail, such as decorating with lilac flowers to symbolise love – as portrayed in the show – was done deliberately.
“I didn’t expect to see the grand decorations, especially how they decorated the hallway outside.
“Even details like the flowers that they are displaying play an important role in making the experience better,” she said.
For die-hard fan Rachel, coming all the way from Ipoh, the series influenced her expectations of the performance, especially because of how creative the band is.
The evening also included an interactive search for Lady Whistledown, with performers involving the audience and bringing the event to life.
