British High Commissioner commends Sarawak’s TVET landscape

KUCHING: Sarawak Skills was privileged to host British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ajay Sharma, on an official visit on Wednesday, underscoring the shared commitment to strengthen collaboration in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The visit also marked a significant milestone for Sarawak Skills in forging closer ties with the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur to create opportunities in skills development, capacity building and knowledge exchange.

Executive Director of Sarawak Skills, Hallman Sabri, expressed appreciation for the visit and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing Sarawak’s TVET landscape.

“The collaboration would open new pathways for students and educators to gain global exposure while enabling local industries to benefit from a skilled and competitive workforce.

“Sarawak Skills is committed to preparing our students and trainees to be industry-ready and globally competitive.

“Working with the British High Commission opens doors to knowledge sharing, innovation and impactful training opportunities that will benefit Sarawak’s youth and future workforce,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ajay commended Sarawak Skills for its dedication to advancing skills education.

He emphasised that technical and vocational training remained a crucial foundation for sustainable growth and international competitiveness, expressing confidence that stronger cooperation between the United Kingdom and Sarawak would yield long-term benefits.

“The UK places great importance on developing future-ready skills and we are delighted to see Sarawak Skills taking such an active role in shaping the next generation of talent.

“By sharing expertise and fostering collaboration between our institutions and industries, we can ensure that young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy,” he said.

Also present were British High Commission’s Political and Economy Counsellor, Rebecca Cater; Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Fitri Suraya Mohd; Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak’s Head of the Lower Education Division, Donald Henry Nohed; and Sarawak Foundation’s Principal Assistant Director, Hajijah Morsidi.
