KUCHING: Brooke Holding Sdn Bhd (BHSB) made history after being awarded the Sirung Production Platform project worth approximately RM1 billion by PTTEP Sarawak Oil Limited (PTTEP), making it the largest project ever undertaken by the company.
State Financial Secretary and BHSB chairman Datuk Seri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar said the project marks the company’s first collaboration with PTTEP, one of the region’s respected upstream oil and gas operators.
According to him, the project is expected to channel nearly RM480 million through local procurement, involving the purchase of 100 per cent locally sourced materials and engineering items, including major packages such as Gas Turbine Generators and Gas Lift Compressors.
“At the operational level, this project will mobilise manpower, shipyards and industrial capabilities. Direct workforce requirements are expected to reach 1,100 personnel on-site, with an additional 200 indirect workers in critical fields such as safety, quality, management, engineering, welding, fitting, electrical and instrumentation technicians, mechanics, blasting and painting.
“When indirect workers, office staff, subcontractors, support services, transportation, food, accommodation and other related activities are taken into account, the project is expected to support livelihoods and employment opportunities for more than 1,500 individuals,” he said during the Sirung Production Platform Contract Signing Ceremony between PTTEP and BHSB, which was also witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
Elaborating, Wan Lizozman said from a quality perspective, the implementation of the project is expected to involve about 13,000 Inspection and Test Records (ITR), reflecting the extensive scale of quality control and verification required.
He added that Brooke Holding will also create more job opportunities for the company’s fresh graduates, exposing them to high-level engineering projects through employment and industrial training programmes.
“Therefore, Sirung is not only significant in terms of numbers, but also in terms of the demands it places on our workforce, systems and execution capabilities,” he said.
He sajd that the Sirung Production Platform is a mega project involving large-scale operations, technical sophistication and significant impact on the industry.
“It requires disciplined execution, complex coordination and a level of delivery that reflects the international standards expected by the project owner.
“What makes this project especially meaningful is not only its high value, but also how that value will flow into the economy,” he said.
Meanwhile, he stressed that the Sirung Project is not a routine undertaking but a highly complex one, with Brooke Holding’s planning reflecting a full Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) execution environment involving major offshore structures and modules, including jackets as well as process and utility elements, each with its own critical engineering, procurement and construction pathways.
“In other words, this project will test Brooke’s capability in integrating multiple engineering systems, planning disciplines, construction sequencing, project execution, yard readiness, cost control and the ability of personnel from various functions to work together as one team.
“Our team at Brooke Holding, together with suppliers and vendors, will strive to complete this project with safety as a non-negotiable priority, quality as a core discipline, cost control as a responsibility and timely completion as a commitment,” he stressed.
