Brunei reaffirms commitment to clean energy with Sarawak

KUCHING: Brunei has reaffirmed its commitment to clean energy and is exploring new collaborations with Sarawak in renewable energy and sustainability.

This was highlighted during a courtesy visit by Brunei’s Deputy Minister of Energy Datuk Seri Awang Mohamad Azmi Mohd Hanifah to Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abg Hipni, here today (Feb 25). 

According to a statement issued by Dr Hazland’s office, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties in sustainable development.

Both leaders also shared best practices in environmental protection and explored ways to achieve regional energy security.

“Both sides expressed optimism for a successful and enduring partnership that will contribute to the region’s long-term sustainability goals,” the statement said.

Dr Hazland also highlighted Sarawak’s strategic framework for achieving net-zero emissions by 2030, emphasising the role of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in driving the state’s new energy transition. 

As part of their visit, the Brunei delegation toured key energy infrastructure projects in Sarawak to gain insights into the state’s clean energy initiatives. 

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to continue discussions on shared challenges and opportunities in the energy and environmental sectors, reinforcing their commitment to a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership.
