BALINGIAN: The presence of international teams from Brunei and Thailand invigorated the 2025 Bederun Balingian Petanque Championship held at the Balingian Petanque Arena last Sunday.

Organised by the Balingian Melanau Generation Association (PGMB) in collaboration with the Balingian Boules Club (KBB), the tournament also featured local teams from Mukah, Bintulu, Sibu, Miri and Sarikei.

According to the organisers, the two-day championship received encouraging participation and was regarded as a major success.

They said the success was not only reflected in the number of competing teams, but also in promoting Balingian as a host venue capable of attracting more international players in the future.

Apart from strengthening ties between the local community and their regional counterparts, the championship also served as a platform for local players to gain valuable experience against foreign teams while enhancing the festive atmosphere of the Bederun Balingian Festival.

Generasi Petanque Vaie 3 emerged champions, while Al-Muhajirin Boules Club finished runners-up.

Third place was shared by Generasi Petanque Vaie 6 and MUDAK 2.

The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by PGMB’s President and Co-Chairman of the 2025 Bederun Balingian Festival, Hafizzul Abdul Halim, and witnessed by Balingian town chief, Harbi Bakir.
