KUCHING: Former Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datuk Buckland Bangik has been sworn in as a member of the Sarawak Ombudsman, completing the body’s minimum membership requirement.

The oath-taking ceremony was conducted before High Court Judge Dean Wayne Daly, in accordance with the provisions of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, which requires all appointed Ombudsman members to take an oath before officially assuming their duties.

Sarawak Chief Ombudsman Datuk Abdul Ghafur Shariff said the appointment of Buckland completes the minimum membership requirement of the Ombudsman body as stipulated under the ordinance.

“Today marks an important milestone as we have reached the minimum quota of five Ombudsman members, although the maximum allowed is seven,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report.

Abdul Ghafur added that the Sarawak Ombudsman will continue to carry out its role in receiving public complaints and monitoring ministries, state government departments, and government-linked companies (GLCs).
