SIBU: Over the past year, Bukit Assek constituency has continued to progress steadily in many areas, including community development, infrastructure improvements, education, youth engagement, sport facilities, and social welfare initiatives.

Bukit Assek state asemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, pointed out that these efforts would not be complete without fair, accurate and responsible media reporting.

“I strongly believe that the media plays a vital role in society by not only reporting news but also helping the public understand policies, community issues, and the direction of development.

“Your work strengthens transparency, accountability and informed public discourse,” he said at the media night organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Service Centre at a prominent hotel here on Wednesday.

Touching on the Bukit Assek Redevelopment Plan, Chieng said it aimed to improve the overall environment and public facilities, stimulate commercial and economic growth, enhance the development potential of Bukit Assek, and revitalise Sibu.

“It is a long-term, people-centred effort that requires careful planning, coordination and time,” he stressed, adding that public understanding and trust were essential for a project of this nature.

In this regard, he said the role of the media was important and that balance and factual reporting helped the community better understand the objectives, progress and challenges involved while also reflecting genuine public feedback.

Apart from the redevelopment, he said there were also several major projects within Bukit Assek constituency under the 13th Malaysia Plan that would be rolled out progressively this year.

These, he added, included the connecting road from Aman Roundabout to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sibu Flood Mitigation Phase 4, as well as various Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects within the constituency.

“Moving forward, we will continue to keep the media updated on the progress of these projects so that the public is well informed about what is happening on the ground.

“I would also like to assure everyone that whether it is redevelopment or other development projects, we will proceed in a responsible and steady manner, with proper engagement and transparency.

“Beyond this initiative, I remain committed to serving the people of Bukit Assek with sincerity, openness and responsibility,” Chieng added.
