BUKIT Begunan Assemblyman Mong Dagang has urged the Sarawak State Government to establish district councils for the newly elevated Pantu and Lingga districts.
He noted that Pantu and Lingga were officially upgraded to full district status on March 13 2022, joining Sri Aman and Lubok Antu as the four districts within Sri Aman Division.
The upgrade has already made it easier for residents to interact with government departments, such as the Agriculture Department and the Social Welfare Department.

“In light of this, I propose the establishment of district councils in Pantu and Lingga to facilitate more effective planning and orderly development,” Mong said during the motion of appreciation debate for the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s speech in the august House today.
“District councils have already been set up in Sebuyau, Gedong, and Siburan, and having similar bodies in Pantu and Lingga will accelerate development.”
He emphasised that having a dedicated team of councillors would improve communication between the government and local communities, enabling faster dissemination of information and more responsive governance.
Additionally, district councils receive their own annual budgets, which would help fund local projects and initiatives.
Mong also pointed out that parts of his Bukit Begunan constituency fall within these districts, with more than half of his area located in Lingga District.
He expressed hope that the Ministry would seriously consider the proposal for the benefit of the rakyat.
