SIBU: In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year, the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Bukit Igu carried out a festive outreach programme benefiting 20 low-income families at Bukit Igu area, West Bank here on Friday (Jan 30).
They received Chinese New Year food baskets as a gesture of care and festive goodwill.
Led by Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, the organising team members went to the individual homes for the distribution.
Lau expressed his appreciation for community leaders who proactively stepped forward to support those in need, particularly during the festive season.
He said such initiatives not only help ease the burden of underprivileged families but also reflect the strong spirit of unity and mutual support within the community.
“We understand the challenges faced by these families in their daily lives, and we hope this small contribution will bring them a positive and meaningful start to the new year, filled with hope, prosperity and blessings.”
He added that the significance of the programme extended beyond material assistance, as it provided an opportunity to personally visit beneficiaries in their homes, engage with them directly, better understand their needs, and convey sincere wishes for good health, happiness and well-being.
Meanwhile, JKKK Bukit Igu chairperson Kapitan Tang Chuo Ging said that her side has always been committed to caring for underprivileged families within the community and maintains close ties with residents through the collective efforts of its committee members.
She noted that during special festive occasions, the committee would organise various forms of outreach programmes tailored to the community’s needs, ensuring that care and support continue throughout the year.
She expressed hope that such initiatives would further strengthen community bonds and allow more families in need to feel the warmth and support of society.
