MIRI: The Bukit Song viaduct bridge, one of the key structures under Work Package Contract (WPC) 11 of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak project, has reached 98 per cent completion, and is expected to be fully delivered by October 2025.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who inspected the site today, confirmed that the RM58-million bridge is nearing the final stages despite earlier technical hurdles.
The viaduct, stretching 300 metres across challenging terrain, had to be redesigned after soil movement in the area made the original plan unfeasible.
“The biggest challenge was the soil condition. We had to rework the design and reinforce the structure, but it is now almost complete,” Nanta said during his visit.
He added that the project is progressing ahead of schedule, with prospects of being delivered earlier than planned.
Also present during the visit were Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, and Deputy Director of Infrastructure, Wisil Lichok.
The Bukit Song viaduct forms part of WPC 11, which also covers works at Mile 8 Lambir.
According to Nanta, the Lambir section remains under review due to issues involving the relocation of old water supply pipelines.
The matter, which requires additional land acquisition and cost evaluation, must be resolved before WPC 11 can be declared fully complete.
“Once both locations – Lambir and Bukit Song – are completed, only then can we say WPC 11 is finished,” he stressed.
The Pan Borneo Highway, once fully delivered, is set to transform connectivity across Sarawak, cutting travel time, improving safety, and boosting socio-economic growth along its route.
