SELANGOR: Sarawak’s archery squad is setting its sights on six medals, including two golds, at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026.
Sarawak archery coach, Jaffrey Low, said the squad is targeting two gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the Games.
“We target two of every colour – two gold, two silver and two bronze,” he said.
Jaffrey said the squad had gone through a series of preparations, including a two-week overseas training stint with a team from Bandung after competing at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
“UUM was a competition, so after that, we went for two weeks of overseas training with a team from Bandung.
“After that, we came back here and returned to UPM for training until SUKMA,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met recently
With the Games happening from August 17 to 22, Jaffrey believes the squad is in a good position to deliver, particularly with a balanced mix of experienced archers and younger talents.
He said there were not many new faces in the squad this time, with the compound women’s team being the main exception as it comprises a younger group of archers.
“This time we have quite a balanced team. Not many new faces, except for the compound women’s team, which is a bit younger. Other than that, we are okay,” he said.
Beyond the overall six-medal target, Jaffrey said Sarawak is also hoping to secure at least one medal from each of its four team categories.
“We have a good chance this time. Like I said, we target 2-2-2 of all the colours, and we have also targeted all four team categories to have at least a medal each,” he said.
A total of 16 archers will represent Sarawak in the archery competition at SUKMA Selangor 2026 held at Stadium INSPEN in Kajang.
