BAU: The Bung Jagoi Heritage Village is set to undergo a major revamp within the next one to two years, significantly improving facilities for visitors.

Tasik Biru Assemblyman, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said the RM3.2-million project is currently in the procurement and tender stages, with implementation expected to begin by the end of this year or early next year.

As the first Bidayuh village established in the Jagoi area over 175 years ago, Henry stressed the importance of preserving the heritage value of Bung Jagoi.

“In two to three years, you will be able to come and stay overnight, with 24-hour electricity supply. You’ll also have warm water for comfort, should you be concerned about the chill.

“We are ensuring good access and proper accommodation with quality rooms for visitors, making sure they have a pleasant stay.

“However, while we enhance the facilities, we are committed to preserving the heritage value of Bung Jagoi. It will be maintained and kept intact as part of its historical significance,” he said.

He said this during Bung Jagoi Day here today.

Henry, who serves as Deputy Transport Minister, said that Bau is the closest tourism destination to Kuching, offering a wealth of natural attractions such as caves, mountains and waterholes.

With the soon-to-be tendered Serikin Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex, he noted that Bau is poised to become a new transit town, with an expected influx of visitors from the neighbouring country.

As such, he welcomed visitors, particularly young people, to explore innovative ways to develop and promote the heritage village.

“We have three alternative access points to this area (Bung Jagoi): the main road, another route to Serasot, and a new service road we are currently building.

“Plans are already in place to continue developing this area while preserving our heritage. I hope you will continue to support the activities here, and I believe this place will become one of the iconic destinations in our district,” he added.
