KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia stayed lower at mid-morning, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) down 2.58 per cent, dragged by selling in selected heavyweights from the financial services and healthcare sectors.
At 11.01 am, the FBM KLCI eased 44.26 points to 1,673.80 from Friday’s close of 1,718.06, after opening 18.93 points lower at 1,699.13.
Market breadth was negative, with losers outnumbering gainers 1,065 to 244. Another 216 counters were unchanged, 1,107 untraded and 33 suspended.
Turnover stood at 2.57 billion units valued at RM2.14 billion.
Among heavyweights, Maybank fell 44 sen to RM11.32, IHH Healthcare lost 43 sen to RM8.47, and Public Bank dropped 16 sen to RM4.71. Petronas Chemicals added 32 sen to RM4.61, while SD Guthrie rose 28 sen to RM5.88.
On the most active list, Velesto Energy gained 1 sen to 34 sen, Bumi Armada added 2.5 sen to 37.5 sen, and Handal Energy rose half-a-sen to 5 sen. Capital A slipped 4.5 sen to 38.5 sen, while AirAsia X fell 21 sen to RM1.07.
Top gainers included United Plantation, up RM1.04 to RM31.32; Hengyuan Refining, up 37 sen to RM2.06; Hibiscus Petroleum, up 36 sen to RM2.41; Kuala Lumpur Kepong, up 36 sen to RM19.72; and Petronas Chemicals, up 32 sen to RM4.61.
Leading losers were Nestle, down RM5.00 to RM100.80; Malaysian Pacific Industries, down RM1.10 to RM29.00; Dutch Lady Milk Industries, down RM1.04 to RM30.96; Hong Leong Industries, down 98 sen to RM16.20; and Fraser & Neave, down 92 sen to RM32.00.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Shariah Index weakened 217.23 points to 11,989.57, the FBM Emas Index fell 305.60 points to 12,221.76, the FBMT 100 Index dropped 307.81 points to 12,059.60, the FBM Mid 70 Index lost 376.85 points to 16,726.48, and the FBM ACE Index gave up 181.98 points to 4,218.05.
By sector, the Industrial Products and Services Index fell 1.92 points to 176.37, the Financial Services Index slipped 706.83 points to 20,081.22, while the Energy Index rose 26.95 points to 822.22 and the Plantation Index gained 215.24 points to 8,463.68. – BERNAMA
