BAU: Telecommunication services in Siniawan and Kampung Serasot have been disrupted due to cable theft incidents as reported on June 12.

In a statement, Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said there were two separate reports of cable theft incidents.

On June 12, the first report from Siniawan was lodged at 9 am, while the second report was lodged at 11.55 am.

The latter incident occurred on June 10 in Kampung Serasot.

“Both reports involved SACOFA telecommunication towers and the incidents have affected telecommunication services in the surrounding areas.

“Initial investigations found that several cables had been cut by an unknown individual.

“For the incident in Siniawan, the estimated loss is around RM5,000, while the incident in Kampung Serasot is still under investigation,” Haide said.

The case is being investigated under Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 413A of the Penal Code.

Police urged members of the public with any information related to the incidents to come forward and report it to the nearest police station.
