BAU: Police are tracking down a man suspected of cutting electrical cables at a shoplot building in Golden Square here on Sunday (Apr 12).

Bau police chief Act Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspect fled the scene on a red Honda EX5 motorcycle after being confronted by a security guard at about 10am.

“The complainant, who was on routine patrol, spotted the suspect cutting electrical cables at the building’s main meter section,” he said.

He said the guard managed to seize a bag from the suspect’s motorcycle before he fled.

“The bag contained cable wires and a wire cutter believed to have been used in the act,” he said.

Further checks found that electrical cables at two shoplots had been cut.

Mohd Haide said the suspect, described as a dark-skinned, stocky man with short curly hair, is still at large.

The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
