KUCHING: Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata) Clinker Line 2 Project in Mambong is expected to begin operations in mid-2027, strengthening Sarawak’s cement supply and supporting the state’s infrastructure and economic growth.
Cahya Mata Group Managing Director, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, said the project is a strategic investment for both Cahya Mata Sarawak and Cahya Mata Cement, reinforcing the group’s long-term commitment to Sarawak’s development.
“This project, which is expected to commence operations in mid-2027, will not only strengthen our production capacity, including through the waste heat recovery system but more importantly, it will ensure a stable supply of high-quality cement to support Sarawak’s large-scale infrastructure and economic development.
“With an investment of RM673 million, this plant will increase our clinker production from 900,000 metric tonnes to 1.9 million metric tonnes per year, enabling us to meet Sarawak’s overall cement requirements,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the Mambong Clinker Line 2 groundbreaking ceremony at Mambong Integrated Plant here today.
Sulaiman noted that the Clinker Line 2 Project forms part of a much broader journey that began in 1974.
“To date, the group has invested RM2 billion across the entire cement business ecosystem. This includes cement and clinker production, concrete manufacturing and logistics networks,” he said.
He emphasised that the project has been designed using the latest technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, including the use of alternative raw materials and fuels sourced locally.
“Our plant will be equipped with waste heat recovery system technology capable of generating approximately 6 megawatt (MW) of clean, renewable energy.
“In addition, more advanced dust filtration systems will be installed to ensure that dust emissions remain well below the regulatory limits set by the authorities,” he said.
He said the Clinker Line 2 Project signals a new phase not only for Cahya Mata, but also for the cement industry and Sarawak Government.
He also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Government, relevant ministries and agencies, stakeholders, contractors and the entire Cahya Mata family for their continued support and confidence in the group.
The project is undertaken by Sinoma Industry Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tianjin Cement Industry Design & Research Institute (TCDRI), China, which has been appointed as the project’s Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contractor.
Cahya Mata Cement has been operating in Sarawak since 1974 and currently manages three cement grinding plants in Kuching and Bintulu, alongside distribution terminals in Sibu and Miri.
