KUCHING: The state Barisan Nasional Backbenchers’ Club (BNBBC) and Political Secretaries Office from the Chief Minister’s Office will organise the ‘We Sarawakians & My Colourful Happy Family’ contest.
According to Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Abdullah Saidol, the contest is held in conjunction with the upcoming Malaysia Day celebrations on 16th of this month.
“The objective is to celebrate unity and diversity through the spirit of competition and to showcase the multi-racial and multi-cultural families in Sarawak as we have a lot of families who come from mixed marriages,” he said during a press conference at Imperial Hotel here, yesterday.
Abdullah, who is also Semop Assemblyman said that mixed marriages involving marrying a foreigner can also be counted as long as the one writing and submitting the entry is a Sarawakian.
“Judging will be done through the uniqueness of the picture, but keep in mind that this is not a photography competition as it will also be taken into account how the participant writes about their families,” he said.
The contest is open to all Sarawakians residing in Malaysia regardless of age whereby participants must submit two colour photos of their families and a write-up of not more than 150 words describing the uniqueness of diversities in their families.
The write-ups can be done in either English or Bahasa Malaysia and must be supported by two referees who are not related to the participants’ families for verification purposes.
While multi-cultural families or families from mixed marriages will be an advantage, entries will be judged on the diversities’ characteristics, creativity, and other distinctive features on both the photos and write-up.
The contest will end on 16 September, 2017 at 6pm and results will be announced on 23 September, 2017.
The first prize winner will receive RM3,500, a one-night stay at Damai Beach Resort, a camera, a plaque, and other gifts while the second and third prize winners will RM2,500 and RM2,000, a camera, a plaque, and other gifts, respectively.
