SERIAN: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Illus recently visited the site where the main road leading to Kampung Hilir in Serian collapsed.

In a press statement, he mentioned that he raised this issue with the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“I discussed this matter during my visit to the Premier before the Hari Raya celebration. On Monday (June 12), I was informed that there would be a coordination meeting among relevant agencies. We hope to secure funds directly from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to speed up the repairs,” he said.

Illus said that the repairs are crucial to ensure the safety of the villagers and other road users. “This issue needs to be addressed promptly. I’m grateful that there were no reported casualties during the collapse,” he added.

Previously, the main road leading to Kampung Hilir in Serian was only accessible to light vehicles, as a section of the road had collapsed due to soil erosion on Sunday.
