KUCHING: Cambodia is open to expanding cooperation with Sarawak in agriculture and bilateral trade to generate mutual benefits for both parties.
Senior Minister in charge of Special Mission (Islamic Affairs) Cambodia, Datuk Dr Othsman Hassan, said his three-day official visit to Sarawak had created opportunities to explore long-term collaboration.
“In Cambodia, we have abundant agricultural resources. Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, has the expertise to study what can be implemented.
“For example, paddy fields here are insufficient to meet local demand, just like in Malaysia.
“But in Cambodia, we have the land advantage, so we can work together, share resources, and trade products for mutual benefit,” he was quoted as saying in a news report by TVS.
Othsman told a press conference this after a special briefing with several Sarawak government agencies at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Wednesday.
The briefing was held to provide an overview of the agencies’ roles and functions, with the aim of opening avenues for future collaboration.
Othsman is leading a delegation comprising Cambodian Member of Parliament, Rofy Othsman, and government advisers, Nasiet Othsman and Aly Mosa.
