LONDON, England: The Sarawak government is in active discussions with the University of Cambridge to secure at least 10 admission slots for top-performing students from the state’s international schools.

TVS reported that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg asserted that the move aims to create a pathway for academically excellent Sarawakian students to pursue world-class education.

“We are sending our students to international schools, and those who excel in their exams should be able to further their studies at prestigious universities.

“This includes the University of Cambridge, and possibly also Oxford, Harvard and the London School of Economics (LSE),” he said.

He told this in a press conference after witnessing the signing of a strategic service contract between Swinburne Innovation Malaysia (SWIM) and Cambridge University Press & Assessment (CUPA) here on Wednesday.

Abang Johari said the proposed admissions would focus on specific strategic fields, as identified by the state government through the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD).

The initiative, he added, is a crucial step in strengthening Sarawak’s pool of high-quality talent capable of competing on the global stage, in support of the state’s new economic development agenda.
