SIBU: Red Crescent’s student members have been urged to apply the experience and knowledge gained during their training camp as a foundation to continue serving their schools and the communities.
Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch’s Chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, said the spirit, discipline and teamwork displayed by the members during the Sibu District-Level MRCS Camp 2025 were highly commendable and should be carried into their daily lives.
“What we witnessed throughout this camp was truly inspiring. It not only provided first aid knowledge, but also nurtured leadership, discipline and team spirit – the very foundation of the Red Crescent’s mission,” he said at the camp’s closing event held at MRCS Sibu Branch’s premises on Sunday afternoon.
Chua also reminded members that the conclusion of the camp does not mark the end of their voluntary journey but rather the beginning of living out the noble values and skills they have learned.
“Use the knowledge and experience gained from this camp to help others. Serve with compassion and courage, because the true spirit of Red Crescent lies in the way we treat our fellow human beings,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to SEGi University Sibu Campus for their support and strong cooperation in organising the camp.
He said that the support not only provided experienced teaching staff but also contributed to covering part of the camp’s costs, exemplified the close collaboration between academic institutions and humanitarian organisations.
“This collaboration demonstrates how academic world and voluntary organisations can work together to nurture a young generation that is knowledgeable, disciplined and compassionate,” he said.
Chua also extended his gratitude to the camp commander, committee members, coaches, teachers, facilitators, as well as the Red Crescent volunteer team and staff for their dedication in making the camp a success.
The one-and-half-day camp was attended by 77 Red Crescent’s student members from various secondary schools within Sibu district.
It featured training activities such as first aid sessions, leadership development, and team building.
Earlier, the closing of the camp was officiated by SEGi University’s Associate Dean for the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Prof. Dr Raili Suhaili.
