KUCHING: SJK Chung Hua No. 5 organised a vibrant and meaningful combined uniformed unit camp, Camp MADANI, held within its school grounds under the inspiring theme ‘Survive with Heart: MADANI Spirit in Nature’ recently.
The one-day camp brought together students from various uniformed bodies for a dynamic programme centred on teamwork, exploration, and character-building.
In her opening address, headmistress Tay Kok Ing highlighted the importance of nurturing morally upright and disciplined students guided by the principles of MADANI: sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust, and compassion.
“The camp’s primary goal is to shape character through shared experiences and teamwork. By immersing students in nature, we hope to cultivate respect, responsibility, integrity, and empathy,” she said.
Among the camp’s most anticipated activities was the Back Wood Cooking session conducted by the Kuching City Scouter Council, where students learned jungle-style survival cooking techniques.
The activity offered a rare opportunity for participants to develop practical outdoor skills while fostering appreciation for nature and teamwork.
Diana Yap from the Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Branch delivered an engaging talk titled ‘Stop Buli’ (Stop Bullying), raising awareness about empathy, kindness, and respect among peers.
The students showed immense enthusiasm throughout the day, actively participating in all activities that promoted leadership, resilience, and cooperation.
Many described the camp as both educational and enjoyable, leaving them with lasting memories and valuable life lessons.
