SIMUNJAN: The likelihood of developing cancer increases significantly after the age of 30, making early detection even more critical.
In stating this Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee stressed the importance of enhancing community health, especially among women.
“Cancer cases are rising, especially after the age of 30, and therefore, age is a risk factor that we must take into account.
“I encourage husbands to fully support their wives, mothers, and female family members in undergoing regular health check-ups.
“Likewise, wives should remind their husbands to undergo health screenings, as the facilities for such examinations are now readily available,” she said.
Rodiyah was speaking at the opening of a district level Cancer Awareness and Screening Programme and ‘War On Sugar’ Campaign, held in conjunction with the Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS) Tour here on Saturday.
“Programmes like this are crucial, especially for women, as they are often exposed to the risk of cancer.
“We want to ensure they have access to accurate health information and can undergo regular screenings to detect the disease at an early stage,” she said.
In addition to cancer screenings, the programme also introduced the ‘War On Sugar’ campaign, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of excessive sugar consumption.
Rodiyah explained that health awareness programmes should emphasise reducing sugar intake as an initial step to preventing non-communicable diseases.
“Excessive sugar consumption increases the risk of various diseases.
“Therefore, we must be wise in choosing our food and controlling sugar intake to better maintain our health,” she said.
