KUCHING: The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2025 will tighten security with a canine unit to ensure a safe, drug-free event.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the strict security measure is being implemented to ensure that the public will enjoy the festival as safe as it is.
“We do have our coordination meeting with all relevant agencies, including the police, the customs and enforcement agency to reinforce security measures,” he said
He said this in a press conference after the official launch of RWMF 2025 at Theatre Hotel here on Friday.

In the meantime, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor reassured festival-goers that RWMF has consistently remained a secure event, free from major security concerns, including drug-related incidents.
“We have undercover police, security personnel, and now, a canine unit to detect any illegal substances.
“We are really looking into that safety because this event is also considered as a family event.
“With that in mind, we want things to be safe and drug-free and so forth,” she said.
On concerns about crowd management at Damai and Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV), Sharzede stated that 20 shuttle buses will be provided to transport attendees between Sarawak Cultural Village and Kuching city.
“We are hoping that it could ease traffic congestion and improve accessibility,” she added.
RWMF 2025, set to take place from June 20 to 22 at Sarawak Cultural Village, promises an exciting lineup of performers from around the world.
The festival has gained significant international recognition over the years, attracting visitors, including dignitaries, from across the globe.
This year, 30,000 attendees is expected to attend the three-day festival, with last year’s record-breaking RWMF that witnessed 26,000 attendees attending it.
Also present during the launching ceremony were Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting and STB chairman Datuk Dennis Ngau.
