KUCHING: Narcotics police struck twice in Jalan Durian Burung last Friday (Jan 23), rounding up six suspects and seizing drug-laced vape cartridges and ketamine valued at almost RM30,000.
The back-to-back raids were carried out at around 10.30 pm following sustained intelligence-gathering and public tip-offs on drug activities in the area.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the team arrested a 45-year-old local man at a residential unit in the first raid, and seized 198 vape liquid cartridges suspected to contain cannabis, with a total volume of 376.20ml.
“The drugs were estimated to be worth RM29,700 on the street. A urine screening test found the suspect positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and ketamine, while background checks found he has one prior criminal record,” he said.
Barely 20 minutes later, officers raided another residential unit along the same road and arrested two local men, aged 21 and 45, and three foreign women, aged 20, 25 and 28.
Also seized from them was a straw tube containing white powder believed to be ketamine, weighing 0.47g and valued at RM80.
“Urine tests showed the men and two women tested positive for drugs, while the third woman tested negative.
“Both male suspects were found to each have one prior criminal record, while the remaining suspects had none,” he said.
All six suspects have been remanded for three days until Jan 27 to facilitate investigations.
The first case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the second case is being probed under Section 12(2) of the same Act.
Following this, Alexson warned that the police will not compromise with any party involved in drug possession, distribution or activities linked to drugs, as these are serious offences under the law.
Members of the public with information on drug activities, are urged to report them to Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-208 7222 or Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-592 9211.
