KUCHING: Kuching is set to host CANROLL 2025, a groundbreaking three-day festival transforming the new waterfront skate park into Malaysia’s extreme sports hub.

Launching this Friday (May 23), the event features elite international competitions, live music, and business talks, marking a milestone for youth subcultures in Borneo and beyond.

CANROLL 2025 aims to nurture youth subcultures by connecting passion with opportunities in sports and creative industries.

The festival seeks to inspire similar initiatives across the ASEAN region, where extreme sports and creative sectors are growing but lack established platforms.

With Borneo’s first world-class skate podium at Waterfront Central ready to debut, attendees can expect high-level competitions in skateboarding, BMX park, and rollerblading, performances by artists, GUCCI Smith and NHWR, workshops for aspiring creatives and entrepreneurs, and the grand opening of Kuching’s first mobile professional extreme sports park.

Featured athletes include Jeanmark Johannes, 35, a skateboarding legend from South Africa; Azrul Hail, 12, Malaysia’s youngest professional rollerblade competitor; Iqbal Priyambodo, 11, from Indonesia, known for his 1080-degree spins; and Muhammad Taslim, 35, Malaysia’s reigning BMX Park champion.

“The energy is electric as we enter final preparations. This Friday, we’re not just opening a festival; we’re igniting a movement that will redefine extreme sports culture in Borneo.

“CANROLL is about creating opportunities for Borneo’s youth to turn their passions into careers. With this world-class facility and international lineup, we’re putting Sarawak on the global stage,” said festival director, Nik Suhaily.

Organisers hope attendees will leave inspired, equipped with new contacts and skills to advance their subcultures, cementing CANROLL’s legacy as a key moment for youth empowerment in the region.
