KUCHING: The CANROLL Pro Action Sports Festival opened today at Kuching’s Waterfront Central, igniting Borneo’s largest extreme sports event and marking a major milestone for Southeast Asia’s urban sports movement.
The event also heralds a strategic partnership with Europe’s Urban World Series, positioning Sarawak as a key player in the global action sports scene.
Waterfront Transformed by Regional Athletes
The festival is set to feature over 100 athletes competing across five disciplines—skateboarding, BMX, flatland, rollerblading, and jetskiing.
At 10:00 a.m, the waterfront will come alive with the sounds of wheels on ramps and the energy of athletes from across the region.
The schedule is packed with practice blocks for skateboard, BMX park, flatland BMX, and rollerbladers
By late afternoon, adrenaline meets innovation with a crowd-thrilling SEADOO Jetski Demo, highlighting Sarawak’s aquatic flair.
Barcelona Meets Borneo in Global Sports Alliance
Urban World Series, based in Barcelona, brings prestige and global reach to CANROLL.
In an official statement, the organisation praised the event’s setting: “Seeing these disciplines come together in a place as dynamic as Sarawak is truly inspiring.”
Chief Executive Officer Victor described the partnership as a strategic leap:
“Malaysia and Southeast Asia are key territories for the growth of urban sports. This collaboration allows us to build bridges, share knowledge, and foster passionate communities.”
The partnership underscores Sarawak’s rising stature in international sport and opens new pathways for athlete development and event expansion.
Nik Suhaily’s Vision Realised
Founder Nik Suhaily, who conceived and led CANROLL’s development, described the festival’s launch as a moment of validation.
“This was always the goal — to aim high, shoot high, and hit the mark. It isn’t coincidence,” he told the Sarawak Tribune, referencing his earlier interview published on 18 May.
His focus on community-building, innovation, and international collaboration was evident on day one, with athletes and organisers alike acknowledging the unique atmosphere of unity and ambition.
Beyond Sport: A Platform for Youth and Culture
At 7:00 p.m., the festival transitions itself into its evening segment — a speaker series focused on entrepreneurship, creative industries, and youth grant opportunities in Malaysia. Attendees gained insight into turning passion into viable careers, a message that resonated strongly with the crowd. The evening concluded with live performances by GUCCI Smith and NHWR, weaving together the cultural threads of music, identity, and urban sport.
Southeast Asia’s Urban Sports Future Begins in Sarawak
CANROLL 2025 marks a turning point for Borneo’s sporting landscape. With world-class infrastructure, international partnerships, and a thriving local community, Sarawak is now positioned as a regional hub for extreme sports.
As the qualifiers begins soon, anticipation builds for what promises to be one of Southeast Asia’s most electrifying sporting weekends.
Today, history is made — not just in competition, but in the forging of a movement that stretches from the streets of Kuching to the avenues of Barcelona.
