KUCHING: Sarawak is stepping up its presence in the urban sports scene through the Canroll Pro Urban Sports Festival, with the platform expanding through increased international participation.
The festival, scheduled from Apr 8 to 12 at the Kuching Waterfront, will feature athletes from multiple countries as it returns following the success of its inaugural edition last year.
Canroll chief executive officer (CEO) Nik Mohd Suhaili said this year’s edition has grown in scale, with wider international involvement.
“We now have participation from about 10 countries, including France, South Africa, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
“This collaboration with international urban sports networks helps raise the standard of competition and brings in more experienced athletes,” he said during a press conference here today (Mar 31).
He said the platform aims to provide local athletes with opportunities to compete, exchange experience and improve their performance alongside international participants.
He added that the festival also serves as a pathway to strengthen Sarawak’s presence in the global urban sports scene.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the initiative supports efforts to develop extreme sports while encouraging more youths to adopt active lifestyles.
“We can see that extreme sports are gaining popularity, especially among the younger generation, and platforms like this help to support that growth.
“This platform also allows us to position Sarawak beyond the local scene by attracting wider participation and interest,” he said.
He added that such initiatives also provide a constructive outlet for youths to engage in positive activities.
