KUCHING: The youths of Sarawak must be proactive in capitalising on opportunities in the entrepreneurial sector.

Koperasi Belia Inovatif Sarawak (Kobis) chairman Zaiwin Kassim said that connectivity was one of the strengths of youths and he urged them to connect with the world in entrepreneurial matters.

“The trend of social media should be tapped into by youngsters as their hobbies and strengths can be capitalised on and turned into a business,” he said.

He was speaking at the ‘Talking About What Really Matters’ Forum at the Chemsain Building here on Friday.

Zaiwin said businesses which did not tap into social media or e-commerce were at risk and might be jeopardising themselves.

Meanwhile, he also encouraged instilling hunger for knowledge among young entrepreneurs.

“The youths need to invest in knowledge — this is an opportunity to expand their business as well,” he said.

According to him, the youths of today were keen to venture into entrepreneurship due to initiatives and assistance provided by the state government.

Zaiwin advised young entrepreneurs to prepare by gaining prior working experience first and collecting capital before diving in.

“Many of those outside Malaysia recognise that we really celebrate and support entrepreneurship,” he added.
