KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) continues to strengthen community engagement and promote active lifestyles through the October edition of Kuching Car Free Morning, which featured a blend of sporting, wellness and community programmes.
The morning event, which began as early as 6:00 am today at Padang Merdeka, attracted hundreds of participants from various backgrounds, reflecting DBKU’s ongoing efforts to foster a connected and health-conscious urban community.
DBKU Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, officiated the Immirun 2025 Immigration Run, which saw participation from the Immigration Department’s officers and members of the public.
The event was complemented by aerobic and zumba sessions to further energise the crowd.
In promoting sustainable and inclusive recreation, Hilmy also launched the Taiwan Cycling Fun Share, jointly organised by DBKU with PCP Publications and supported by the Taiwan Tourism Administration.
The highlight of the programme was the appearance of Matt Moss, a Kuching-born cyclist who has made his mark in Taiwan with two Malaysia Book of Records titles for his cycling achievements.

Moss, who is also the author of ‘Beat Your Limits, Achieve Your Dreams’, shared his personal journey, motivating participants to adopt cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle.
According to DBKU, the initiative aimed to encourage the public to embrace active living, build interest in cycling, and explore cross-cultural appreciation through tourism and sports.
“The Car Free Morning platform allows DBKU to champion wellness, environmental sustainability and cultural exchange, all of which are central to creating a dynamic and resilient Kuching community,” the council said in a statement.
The event concluded with the launch of the DBKU Senior Citizens Community Council ( Majlis Komuniti Warga Emas DBKU), also officiated by Hilmy near the same venue.
The council, established during the Sarawak Urban Forum 1.0 in October 2024, serves as a community representation body that empowers senior citizens to take part in city development while encouraging active and balanced ageing.
Through such initiatives, DBKU continues to position Kuching as a city that values health, inclusivity and sustainability, ensuring every generation contributes to and benefits from urban growth.
