KUCHING: The two-day Sarawak Women’s Career Carnival aims to empower and increase the involvement of women in economic activities along with offering them opportunities.

According to Women, Childhood and Community Development II (Community Well-being Development) Mohamad Razi Sitam, the carnival acts as a platform to connect women from government agencies and various industries to obtain services, employment opportunities as well as to generate income.

He disclosed that a total of 20 booths have been set up involving 10 agencies offering services and 10 employers providing over 500 job opportunities.

“This carnival is the best opportunity for job seekers, especially women affected by COVID-19,” he said at the Sarawak Women’s Career Carnival at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Complex yesterday (June 12).

Razi noted that the carnival also targets the family as a whole and aims to increase public awareness on the services provided by government agencies on women’s career development.

“This initiative by the Sarawak Women and Family Department also includes providing exposure and information on employment opportunities for women in the formal and informal economic sectors as well as increasing women’s access and participation in society through social initiatives and innovations,” he said.

“Hopefully this carnival becomes a gateway and a platform for visitors here to build new careers as well as generate a better income and a better quality of life,” he said.
