SIBU: Vocational College students are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), aligning with Sarawak’s development goals.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, highlighted the state government’s efforts, under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to introduce high-impact initiatives in sectors such as hydrogen energy, smart bus transport, and aerospace.
“This is a golden opportunity to pursue a career in TVET. Success, however, depends on acquiring the right skills.
“Without them, who will employ us? Use your time at this college to earn a skills certificate and build your future.
“Most importantly, avoid laziness – it’s our greatest enemy,” he said in his speech at the MADANI Unity Open House and the Golden Jubilee of Sibu Vocational College at Dewan Seri Permata here today.
He also stressed on the importance of self-empowerment in today’s technological era, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), and urged students to not only gain knowledge but also practical experience and the ability to discern right from wrong.
Meanwhile, reflecting on the college’s 50-year history, he noted its role in producing successful alumni who have contributed significantly to various sectors, making it a cornerstone for developing a skilled workforce.
At the event, he also announced a RM10,000 allocation from the Minor Rural Projects (MRP) fund to the Sibu Vocational College Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) to support educational initiatives.
