Therapy centre, Kind.er Minds invites people to come as they are and heal as they grow.

Founded by Kimberley Tan and Laura Kho, they both advocate for good mental health and with the establishment, the practice offers different types of therapies to help those in need.

Kho emphasises that it is essential to care for our mental health before it develops into a disorder.

“Therefore, we need people to understand that going for therapy doesn’t mean that you are crazy. Through Kind.er Minds, we want to provide people a safe space to come for help and seek support,” she explained.

The name Kind.er Minds is inspired by the word “kinder,” reflecting the importance of self-compassion.

“It’s easy to be kind to others, but we often forget to extend that same kindness to ourselves. We need to let go of the shame and guilt we carry and allow ourselves the grace to heal,” Tan explained,

Hence, both Tan and Kho shared that they want to cultivate a culture of being kind to themselves because when one is kind to themselves, they are able to project and amplify that kindness towards the community.

At the moment, the therapy centre offers face-to-face and online services such as individual therapy, couples counselling, group therapy, and family therapy.

The center also extends its services to the corporate sector by offering employee assistance programmes. With a team of certified counselors and clinical psychologists who speak multiple languages, they also have a counselor proficient in sign language, ensuring accessibility for a diverse range of clients.

Taking into account compatibility between client and therapist, the centre also offers a 15-minute free online introductory chat for both sides to assess fit, clarify needs and address practicalities.

“It’s like speed dating. You have to check whether you get along with the therapist because, to some, the different styles and delivery may make it difficult for two people to click.”

Being in the industry, Tan revealed that mental illnesses are not overnight wounds, rather it is an accumulation of unspoken pain, unmet needs, and unresolved experiences that build up over time.

It is shaped by the pressures we endure, the environments we navigate, and the narratives we tell ourselves.

Healing, too, is not an overnight process — it requires patience, self-compassion, and the willingness to unlearn, relearn, and grow.

“Many psychiatrists and psychologists based in hospitals often say that they wish people would visit them before it becomes serious. At Kind.er Minds, we are trying to identify the gaps, as Kho advocates, “We don’t want the community to end in a mental health crisis before they come to seek help. We want to encourage mental maintenance like how people keep their physique in better conditions.”

Elaborating further, Tan explained that before a person reaches their breaking point, they may struggle with daily routines or frequently experience conflicts within their community.

To raise awareness of the importance of having good mental health, Tan and Kho regularly share on their Instagram page @kindermindstherapy.

Sharing educational materials regarding the issue, they hoped that through the more approachable and fun methods, many more would come up and speak out about their problems before it worsens.
