SIBU: Covid-19 cases here are on the decline, says Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee.

However, he said to ensure zero cases, this would take time as too many positive cases were recorded initially.

“Although cases are on the decline, efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 still need to be continued.

“We’ve been like this for three months and we need a little more time to succeed. The vaccines will also arrive for high risk communities, maybe in April or May,” the Assistant Local Government and Housing minister added.

“After the vaccination is completed, I think Sibu may succeed,” he said today.

Commenting further, Dr Annuar explained that the district continued to show a drop in cases from the seventh to the 11th week.

“As of the third day of the 12th week, we have recorded 142 cases, whereas during the 11th week, 332 cases were recorded.

“We hope that in the 12th week, if the cases are always less than 40 a day, we will continue to show a decrease in cases,” said Dr Annuar, also Assistant Education, Science and Technological Research minister.

The cooperation of all communities, he stressed, was also very important in keeping cases low, such as complying with standard operating procedures.

Meanwhile, the Nangka assemblyman said active case detection would be conducted again for Sibu Jaya residents this Saturday at the Sibu Jaya Market.

“This is not because there is a problem due to new cases, but we have planned it before.

“We are also asking the residents there to come and get tested even though most of the zones in Sibu Jaya have changed to green.”
