TATAU: Nine shop owners at Pekan Sangan affected by the early morning fire recently received a total of RM9,000 in cash aid as initial assistance to help ease their burden.

The fire, which broke out around 12:40 am on June 27, completely destroyed nine wooden shop lots and damaged 10 vehicles.

A contribution of RM1,000 per shop unit was handed over by Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai during his visit to the site on Saturday.

He also spent about an hour meeting the victims and surveying the damage caused by the fire.

In expressing his sympathy, Sikie conveyed his concern for the victims affected by the tragedy.

He also advised all those affected to file detailed reports with the Tatau District Office, the police, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the Fire and Rescue Department for further action.
