BINTULU: A total of 1,878 families affected by the recent floods have received cash card assistance from the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia during a programme held at SJK Siong Boon Hall, here today.
Each family received aid ranging from RM1,500 to RM2,500, depending on the number of household members.
According to the foundation’s spokesperson Chang Yii Yong, the cash card assistance serves as recovery aid, as flood victims need financial support to repair damages and purchase new essentials.
“This aid is a reflection of our concern for those affected by the floods. We hope it can ease their burden and help them restart their lives,” he said.
He mentioned that about 227 volunteers conducted house-to-house visits to gather information about those in need of the cash card assistance.
“Those approved to receive the aid will be contacted and must collect their assistance during the scheduled sessions,” he added.
He explained that this initiative is one of the ways the foundation supports flood victims, in addition to providing food and essential items during the floods and helping to clean their homes.
A representative of the aid recipients, Jeffery Jalong, expressed his gratitude for the compassion shown by Tzu Chi Foundation, which consistently steps forward to help communities during emergencies.
With initiatives like this, he hopes more organisations will come forward to extend their support to disaster victims, further strengthening the spirit of solidarity within the community.
The foundation has previously been involved in various disaster relief programmes across the country, emphasising the values of love, humanity, and unity in all their efforts.
